On the G29/G920 shifter, reverse is engaged by pushing down on the knob and putting it where 6th is. Use that pattern to assign the gears properly in the settings. Start with the shifter in neutral, click the position you want to assign, then put the shifter in that gear and put it back in neutral. Repeat for other gears.
